ADVENTURE IN PRIMATE

The Primate Safari offers the chance to experience the magnificent gorillas and primates of Rwanda. With approximately 300 mountain gorillas, Rwanda offers one of the best chances of seeing these gentle giants in the world

Day 1
Arrival and pick up from Jomo Kenyatta Airport to Nairobi Serena hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel or similar.

Day 2

Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your flight to Kigali, Rwanda. Take a two hours drive to Butare, the intellectual and cultural heart of Rwanda. Visit the King's Palace at Nyanza, an enormous and traditionally constructed dome. The palace is no longer in active use, but painstakingly maintained as a museum. Drive to Nyungwe Forest Reserve after lunch. Time permitting, we shall visit to a genocide memorial site. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House.

Day 3

After an early breakfast enter the Nyungwe Forest Reserve in search of the resident primates. Nyungwe Forest Reserve, extends across the majestic hills of southeast Rwanda. This Forest Reserve is the largest mountain forest remaining in east Africa. Of the larger mammals, primates are the most visible in Rwanda, with 13 recorded species representing 25%of the African primate checklist, including chimpanzee, colobus monkeys, grey-checked mangabey and redtailed monkey. Lunch is seved at the Gisakura Guest House. After lunch, drive west to Cyangungu on the shores of Lake Kivu. Transfer to Kibuye for dinner and overnight at a guest house. You may also go to Gisenyi for overnight at Lake Kivu Serena.

Day 4

After breakfast, drive to Gisenyi at the northern end of Lake Kivu. Lunch en route, driving to Kinigi to your lodge in Kinigi, at the base of the Volcanoes. Dinner and overnight at the Gorilla Nest Lodge or the new Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.

Day 5

After breakfast, and going through the formalities, drive to the edge of the Volcanoes National Park. A brief by the park's guides is given before a morning in the forest tracking the gorillas. After lunch and time permitting, visit the twin Lakes Bulera and Ruhondo before proceeding back to Kigali for dinner and overnight at the Umubano Novotel (STD) or Kigali Serena (SUP).

Day 6

Transfer to the airport after breakfast for your flight back to Nairobi. Overnight at the Serena Hotel or similar.

Day 7

You may extend your stay in Kenya for a Kenyan safari and additional Coastal Holiday.
